CancerSource.com expands consumer resources

June 11, 2000

BOSTON — CancerSource.com (SM) has just launched an expanded and reorganized Resources area with new information and tools to empower cancer patients and survivors, friends, and family members to cope with and fight against cancer. The area now offers information on work and money issues and tips on getting involved in fundraising, advocacy, and legislative action, in addition to its many other helpful reference tools.

The enhanced Resources area provides valuable information from the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) on finances, insurance, employment, advocacy, communication, and hope. CancerSource.com users will be able to access cancer centers and organizations that offer legislative information, and search for fundraising and advocacy events taking place throughout the world. Users can also find local advocacy groups and cancer centers through easy-to-use search engines.

In addition to these new features, the Resources area also includes a consumer drug guide, cancer dictionary, patient self-care guides, and clinical trials information.

"Cancer patients and the people who care about them often feel powerless in the face of this disease," said Deborah Mayer, CancerSource.com Chief Medical Officer. "CancerSource.com wants to help people take control of their situation by giving them resources that can increase their knowledge, offer tips on coping, and make them aware of opportunities to get involved in the fight against cancer."

"We at NCCS know first-hand what living with, through, and beyond a cancer diagnosis means and how important information can be," commented NCCS executive director and cancer survivor, Ellen Stovall. "That's why we are working with CancerSource.com in reaching out to the 1.2 million Americans who this year will hear the words, 'You have cancer.'"

CancerSource.com empowers its user community of cancer patients/survivors, their friends and family, and healthcare professionals to do more in the fight against cancer by providing free, personalized access to an extensive range of cancer information and resources.

CancerSource.com was founded in 1999 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Jones and Bartlett Publishers, the 9th largest higher-education publisher in the United States. Endorsed by an advisory board of renowned oncologists, nurses, and leading cancer health experts, CancerSource.com's mission is to become the most trusted, comprehensive, and accurate source of cancer information and services available.
